    Never read a book like this and first time reading this author. I kind of am at a loss for words. I fear this might actually happen in the real world and am horrified at that thought. I am struggling to decide whether I want to continue, yet I feel the need to find out what happens next.

Even though she's taken an oath of silence, her determination to survive and equal implore to die cry in decibels. As the second book that I came across when discovering Pepper Winters, Pennies blew me away! It's gritty, harrowing, and above all bone chilling. The angst is tangible, the brutality is heart stopping, the intensity is building, and it's only volume one in the five-novel series. Last but not least it cannot be read as a stand-alone. There's a slight cliff-hanger at the end!!! (But it is survivable...just depends on how desperate/attached you are to the characters.     My God, did I love every page and sentence of this book! Epic! This is sure to be a movie or series on tv! I loved learning about the broken slave Pim and her master A. I also loved and hated as Elder walked in a and turned her world upside down. I felt for her, I felt for him, but I loved the Sparks that wanted to fly between these two but that couldn't because of her brokenness. I loved that she could see him, just as he could see her. I cried for her pain and for her not being saved from it. I don't know how I'll last a month or two until dollars is released (the next book) this was a heart stopping 5 star book! I need to know what happens now!!! If your a fan of her other books, this is for you! If your a fan of dark love stories, this is for you! If you like happy stories that don't involve pain, run now!

    There isn't a book Pepper has written than I haven't fallen into completely from the moment I read the first page.... Her writing draws you in, makes you feel as though you know every every thought and feeling and can experience it as close as possible without physically dragging you in. You head and your heart will be never quite be the same though... This story was heartbreaking, watching Pim's struggle and abuse, on top of the connection between Pim and Elder.... all while he struggles to do what is right while he himself is a monster at heart... FABULOUS dark book, can't recommend Pepper's writing enough.. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended dark read!!
