    This is a 5-star book that is marred by many small, easily correctable, errors. I took off one star because of the errors that should be corrected with an update, and I took off another star because the errors that are in a book that will have many new programmers as an audience (making them more egregious). If you are an experienced programmer coming to Swift, the errors will not trip you up and you’ll find this an excellent resource.
  • Best programming book I’ve ever read

    I’ve tried to learn to program many times though the years: C++, ObjC, Java, Cocoa, etc. This is the first book that really connected. I love how you’re already building apps in like chapter 3, most other languages had me building command-line word games for most or all of the book. There are a few errors in the sample code, I had to search the web to find answers to those. But it really is an incredible resource to get started writing apps.
  • Good but not great

    There is some good explanations of Swift theory but it’s hard to get the guided projects to work. I have tried to do the ToDoList project but even when copying and pasting the code directly from the book I get compliler errors and the code won’t run. In many cases it is not real clear where the code should be placed.

    I am an iOs developer for 2 years now, I learnt Swift and Xcode the hard way browsing on internet, the Apple docs and Stack Overflow. I think this book is awesome for every level of developers out there, Apple are the best at what they do. I always really liked browse their documentation so it’s a real pleasure to be able to read this book made by the best. I spent 5 days to go through it, I already knew a lot about Swift and Xcode but it’s always good to read when you’re a developer and I can tell that there is simply nothing better out there to “Build an app with Swift”. Of course don’t forget to read “The Swift Programming Language” thorouglhy.

    The font size can’t be changed! Font size change is disabled. iBooks with my other books has changeable font size and its very good. On my Mac if I make the window larger the font size increases but the bottom goes off the screen and there is no vertical scroll so the bottom of the page can’t bee seen.
  • Great so far...

    There are some things that don’t work as expected. the vocabulary doesn’t work on the iPad when I click on the vocabulary terms in 1.5 and 1.6 on….. I typically like to familiarize myself with the vocabulary before I read the rest of the chapter. Fortunuately I have some programming background and can get through it but if you don’t have this you may have some trouble.

    The book is filled with lots of facts but not much of a guide. I enjoy reading this book and I hope this helps others in a way it helped me. The books guide part does give you a run down about the app creating process and with that I can not complain. I am excited for other people to enjoy this app!🙂
  • Should be the gold standard

    The content of this book really deserves five stars, it is fantastic, probably the best book on iOS development I have ever read and I’ve read a lot of them. However I have to ding it a star because there are so many typos and errors. Most of them can be got past fairly easily though someone with little experience may have more difficulty. There are a few times where I’m left scratching my head because it seems the author has omitted some vital information. The most egregious error is the server app required for the final guided project. It just doesn’t work and I had to use a python server someone put together in order to complete the final project. That being said, the real starts of this book are the labs and the guided projects. They really helped to reinforce the concepts learned. Also the final section on project planning iis invaluable and covers a topic rarely if ever seen in other iOS development books.
